Q: What is Jean Kettell Studio of Dance?

A: Jean Kettell Studio of Dance is a dance studio founded in Edgemere, MD in 1953 by Miss Jean Kettell. Jean Kettell is a certified member of Dance Masters of America and former New York City Rockette. 


Q: Where is Jean Kettell Studio of Dance located?

A: Our studio is conveniently located in Dundalk, MD


Q: What types of dance classes are offered?

A: We offer classes in Ballet, Tap, Jazz, Pointe, Musical Theatre and Lyrical. Workshops are offered in other genres as well. Classes are available to students age 18 months through adult.


Q: How can I register?

A: Please email us for the most up to date registration information. 


Q: When do classes run?

A: Classes run September thru June with summer dance classes in July and additional offerings in August.


Q: What time of day are classes held?

A: Typically, classes are held Monday thru Friday in the evenings and Saturday morning and afternoons. Some workshop classes are held on occasional Sunday evenings.


Q: How much time a week will my child spend dancing?

A: The time spent dancing varies with each child. Your child may dance anywhere from 1 to 4 hours a week; some students dance more or less pending their availability.


Q: How much is tuition?

A: Tuition varies from dancer to dancer. The number of classes taken will determine your tuition.  We do offer a multi class and sibling discount. 


Q: Is there a studio dress code?

A: Our studio dress code is a black leotard with pink or tan tights. No skirts. Black leggings and fitted black tops are allowed in the winter months. Ballet, tap, and/or jazz shoes are required; pointe shoes may also be required if you take pointe. If you’re unsure about what shoes to purchase, please ask your teacher. In some cases, different shoes may be required for the recital piece.  Hair should be back in either a bun or ponytail, out of the student’s face. This dress code is to allow for maximum movement by dancers during class.


Q: Is there an end-of-year recital?

A: Yes. Our annual recital is held in June. Proceeds from ticket sales benefit the Children's Cancer Foundation, Inc. We do NOT charge an extra fee to be part of the recital.  The annual tuition rate includes the recital rehearsals and performances.  


Q: How much are costumes?

A: Costume costs differ for each dancer; your final cost will depend on how many costumes your dancer needs for the recital. An average price for one costume is $55.


Q: Does Jean Kettell Studio of Dance participate in competition?

A: No. Instead, we offer a Performance Group by audition. We believe that offering students a chance to experience sharing their talents with varied community audiences is a valuable life lesson.  We focus on education and performance.

A: Our resolve is to provide the best instruction in dance, an appreciation of the related arts, and the social development of which we are humanly capable-and to increase that  capability each day. We treat each student as an individual recognizing their talents, personalities and learning styles.

Q: Is parking available?

A: Our parking lot is in the rear of the building.  You may also find parking in the Dizzy Pleasure Club next door, or street parking both in front and on the side streets.


Q: How am I billed for lessons?

A:  Our tuition rate is annual.  It is broken into 10 monthly payments for convenience.  Payment are due on the 15th of the month from August to May.   We reserve the right to withhold a dancer from class is tuition is not paid.


Q: What if my child decides to withdraw?  Am I responsible for a full year’s tuition?

A: We require 30 days written notice to withdraw. For your convenience, a withdrawal form is available.  Fees due during the 30 day period will still be collected.


Q: What other expenses should I be aware of?

A: With the exception of costumes, tights, and tuition, there is a $25 non-refundable registration fee.  You may choose to purchase a program ad, tickets to the recital, or other optional experiences but these are at your discretion.
